5k a day for Alderhey

This Sunday it will be Lauren's 14th Birthday so I am a ball of nervous, emotional energy. I'm attempting to keep busy but my attention flits from one topic to the next.

One of the things I have been able to concentrate on is the garden, specifically the area we have created for Lauren. It seems very important to get it ready for Sunday. As if doing this will make her Birthday perfect, which blatantly, obviously, it will never be again.

The fundraising activities that we planned are all being postponed. My swim and 3 Peaks Challenge, and the kids Badass Mucker have already been affected, and at the end of last week we heard that the Scarfell Pike Marathon would not be going ahead this year.

So I have been thinking of fundraising activities that I could do, to raise money for Alderhey Children's Hospital and also keep me busy. I had an idea a few weeks ago, although I was unsure whether I should do it, mainly because I think it will be difficult, but I guess that's the whole point. I can't do long endurance activities because of my dodgy knee, so instead I'm going to do 5k every day for a year.

Basically I will walk or cycle 5km (in 1 go, not 2 or 3 short walks a day) and I will do this every day, on holiday, at Christmas, in the torrential rain, for 1 year. By the end of it I will have travelled further than Lands End to John O'Groats. I am going to start on Saturday 11th July so that I finish on 10th July next year, with the 11th being the date for my open water swim.

I will link my strava to the fundraising page so everyone can see my progress, and hopefully donate a pound or 2 when I reach some landmark distances.

Here's hoping for a dry year 😬
